Berry Smoothie
Ingredients
- bananas
- blueberries
- strawberries
- juice of 1 lemon
- mixed greens: baby spinach, baby kale, chard
- chia seeds
- Lakewood brand mango nectar
- Available at Whole Foods Market
- Lakewood brand Pure Pineapple Juice
- Available at Whole Foods Market
- Whole Foods Market has a 3 lb. bag of frozen blueberries.
Notes
- Some combination of all the ingredients can be frozen. I use frozen bananas, blueberries, strawberries and greens.
- Using frozen ingredients has two benefits. One, it's easier than keeping fresh food around before it spoils. Two, the fozen fruit makes the smoothie cold without adding ice.
- If all ingredients are fresh I would freeze the juices into cubes so that the smoothie is cold.
- Always use quality fruit juices without added sugar, like the Lakewood juices.
- Before freezing, I cut strawberries in half at an angle to leave the green leaves in place. The leaves are edible and have nutrients, so I put them in the smoothie.
Process
- Add about 8-10 ounces of juice to pitcher first.
- Add about 1-1/2 cups of blueberries.
- Add a couple handfuls of greens.
- Add strawberries.
- Add bananas.
- Add lemon juice and chia seeds.
- Blend.
